The Chargé d’Affaires, ai, at the U.S. Embassy in Yaounde will preside over the launching of the first-ever English Access Microscholarship Program for Cameroon at the American Language Center in Yaoundé.
The prestigious Access Program is funded by the U.S. Department of State and provides a foundation of English language skills to non-elite students through afterschool classes and intensive summer learning activities. Access students gain an appreciation for American culture and values, increase their ability to participate successfully in the socio-economic development of their countries, and enhance their ability to compete for and participate in future U.S. exchange and study programs.
Through this first English Access Microscholarship program in Cameroon, the American Language Center in Yaounde will provide two-years of English language instruction to a classroom of thirty students between the ages of 14 – 16 from underprivileged neighborhoods in Yaounde.
Since its inception in 2004, approximately 70,000 students in more than 85 countries have participated in the Access Program.
